Yet again, our world family was rocked by unforeseen tragedy this week. This time, another beloved city... Boston. It is hard to comprehend more evil, more terror. And like New York on its darkest day, there is a beautiful outpouring from all around the world for the lives forever changed. Our family has a particular fondness for "Bean Town". When my daughter was young, Boston was an annual vacation for us, with an occasional jaunt to Cape Cod. What fascination did Boston hold for us? We loved the rich history of the city, the fun activities like the Duck Tour, nail-biting baseball games at historic Fenway Park and amazingly delish meals at Catch of The Day in the Italian North End of Boston. Despite the "Big Dig" at the time, it was an easy and friendly city to navigate! We loved the busy-ness of the streets on designer row and the quietness of a float in a swan boat. Much like New York City, Boston has enclaves of unique and varied flavors. I think most of all the thing that drew us back to this city time and time again was its energy. It was the collective energy of the people of Boston that we felt and found welcoming and inclusive. There was a sense of pride and community and happiness in sharing a bit of their city with visitors. This is the Boston that needs to be remembered, revisited and revived.

I find it a challenge - particularly with events such as this -- to decide just how much of the news to let into my world. I want to be informed, however, most of what is reported drains my energy so, and in an act of self-love, I tend not to watch. And as my children were growing up (and even now), I definitely made sure that when they were present, the news reports were not on. What I did happen to see (gladly) this week, was an attempt at a focus on human acts of grace. There were reports of people - police and civilians - jumping in to help with no thought of their own safety. Homes were being flung open for "strangers" to stay and take respite. These acts of courage, grace and kindness are what I choose to hold on to in coming days. Spiritual author and speaker, Marianne Williamson, says that a miracle occurs anytime you experience a shift in perception... more specifically, a shift from fear to love. May we all experience this shift and hold the light for all of humanity.
